The Safe Zone
Have you met people who made you feel that your small business is just something in passing? Nothing to take as serious and that you should step into the safe zone with a company instead? Maybe they think it’s safer if you worked for a company that you can grow with, build a 401k plan with, etc. Whatever the insult, defend your business and your mental & spiritual health! Sometimes comments like those can take a punch to the spirit. This then leads you to think, “maybe my business is not that important” “doesn’t have much meaning” or maybe “my business isn’t bringing in the big bucks right now maybe I should get a job.” These comments can be destructive and lead to poor mental health and a crushed spirit.
You Are Different
Always remember everyone was raised differently than you, everyone’s mentality will not be the same as yours, therefore, forget the safe zone! Though those statements can pierce the spirit try and acknowledge it from a different perspective. Maybe all they knew was to go to work and move up the ladder. Or what they were taught was to get those more secure career fields such as a doctor, a lawyer, etc. Just maybe all their life someone told them they would never be anything in life or could not amount to much on their own as a business owner.
Whatever the comment maybe it’s important to safeguard your spirit and your mind from such people. This doesn’t mean you should hate them but try challenging them. Ask why do they feel your business is not a “serious” business, after all, it is serious to your right? Sometimes when people are faced with such a question it makes them second guess their original comment. They may even apologize for being so negative, insensitive, and a dark cloud over your success.
Stand Up for Yourself & Your Business
Never allow anyone to speak negatively over you or anything that involves you. “There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 12:18 ESV ) Additionally, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 18:21 ESV) Remember the choice and reach a motivational decision to get to wanting to open your own business, to begin with. That took a lot of courage and is something you should be proud and thankful to God for! That is no small matter.
There is so much that goes into running a small business. From getting it started to the advertising, marketing, and promotion of your brand. Not to mention you are the one doing every single thing from concept, creation, and managing. It is no easy task to sometimes walk out of your comfort zone (that old 9-5 job) to embark on something greater all while recognizing your worth. To also take a stand against the so-called opportunities that some companies give you in comparison to the opportunity you create for yourself! You did that! Now own it!

So I now leave you with this, you are awesomely and wonderfully made! As are the talents and aspirations that God has given you. His word specifically says, “I praise You, for I am awesomely, wonderfully made!
Wonderful are Your works—and my soul knows that very well.” (The Holy Bible, Psalm 139:14, TLV) You were made with talent, purpose, and with careful design. Hold your head up high and know the only one who has a say in your business is you and God! God is your safe zone! Amen!
